DMARDS
Rheumatologists use a variety of medications that treat the underlying immune abnormality causing arthritis. The first line of treatment for arthritis is usually a Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug (or DMARD).
Here is a list of DMARDs we use and a link to the American College of Rheumatology patient educational handouts on these medications.
- Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)
- Methotrexate (Rheumatrex)
- Leflunomide (Arava)
- Sulfsalazine (Azulfidine)
- Azathioprine (Imuran)
- Mycophenolate Mofetil (Cellcept)
